I have never been a huge fan of celery, even citing it as my least favorite food as a kid. My husband, on the other hand, loves it, and we always have a big head of it in the fridge at our house.

Recently I wanted to try experimenting with different ways to stuff the celery to make it more palatable for me, and quickly came up with this Stuffed Celery recipe, which included cream cheese, cheddar cheese, bacon, ranch mix, and chives.

Suddenly, I LOVED celery! And the internet loved it, too. The video of the original stuffed celery quickly went viral, with over 2 million views and thousands of comments from people that either loved or hated celery.

Many of the commenters were telling me variations of stuffed celery that they had grown up with that I had to try.

The combination here was by far the most recommended.

As it turns out, plenty of women have spent their childhood eating celery stuffed with cream cheese, pineapple, and walnuts. As a true lover of a sweet & salty combination, I had to try it! And, wouldn’t you know it, it could be my favorite combination yet.

Key Ingredients for Pineapple & Walnut Stuffed Celery

Labeled ingredient shot to make pineapple walnut stuffed celery.
  1. Celery: Cut your celery stalks into pieces about 4-6” long. Make sure to wash your celery carefully, as it can carry a lot of extra dirt!
  2. Whipped Cream Cheese: I prefer whipped cream cheese which is lighter in texture and easier to mix. You can also use standard cream cheese if that is what you have on hand, you just need to allow it to come to room temperature to mix better.
  3. Crushed Pineapple: If you don’t want to use crushed pineapple you can also use pineapple tidbits and cut them into even smaller pieces, or freshcut pineapple that you mince up. Make sure to drain any extra liquid or the cream cheese mixture will get too runny.
  4. Chopped Walnuts: I buy chopped walnuts in the bag but then chop them up a little smaller so that they can fit nicely into the hollow of the celery.
