A few days ago, I had my very first viral video on The Domestic Spoon!! After 2 years of shouting into the void, it feels like it’s taken long enough hahaha. But with 1.3 million views and counting, it was extremely validating to finally see people so excited about a recipe on this blog. I was shocked to find that it was a recipe for… Stuffed Celery of all things?

And yet, it makes perfect sense. Celery and cream cheese (or celery and peanut butter!) is a nostalgic snack that so many of us grew up with. The recipe that I posted took that same classic snack, and added some surprise ingredients, like bacon and cheese, to add an extra burst of flavor.

And people were loving the creativity, even the celery haters! In fact, many readers said that making this recipe was the first time they would ever willingly eat celery. An honor I don’t take lightly 😉

Many of the comments on the video were people telling me different combinations to try, and once the gears in my brain started turning, they wouldn’t stop!

Behold: a series of stuffed celery recipes, starting with today’s variation: French Onion Stuffed Celery

With this recipe, you use a few easy store-bought ingredients to create a flavor-blast of french onion goodness that spreads right onto a celery stalk! It takes about 5 minutes to throw together and is perfect for an after school snack, a super bowl appetizer, or just to munch.

Key Ingredients

  1. Celery: You can buy an entire head of celery and cut each stalk into thirds to make matchsticks! Make sure to wash each piece thoroughly, as celery hides a lot of dirt.
  2. Whipped Cream Cheese: I specifically recommend whipped cream cheese because it is easier to mix by hand to incorporate all of the ingredients. If you are using normal cream cheese, you’ll probably need to soften it to room temperature to make it easier to use.
  3. Gruyere Cheese: Please, I beg you to use as much gruyere cheese as you want. Don’t let my measurements confine you.
  4. French Onion Soup & Dip Mix: This one is a little tricky, as the pouches contain powder and dehydrated onions. You’ll have to mix it up a bit to make sure to get a good spoonful that contains both. Don’t use more than the recipe calls for. I made that mistake and it was WAY too salty.
  5. Crispy Onions: From the salad topping aisle. I recommend using those ones instead of making your own as there is less liquid to make your mixture runny.
