Football season is here! If you’re planning your game-day menu, these cookies should definitely be a part of it!

They are easy to make, thanks to the use of premade dough, but still cute enough to impress any guests, and when you pull them from the oven nice and warm, they taste just like homemade!

All you need to do is stack them together and bake. Perfect for a quick, sweet snack that any member of the family can throw together. The combination of the cookies together makes for an extra sweet and gooey center that makes biting in feel like a huge treat. These Football Cookies are a sure-fire touchdown!

Expert Tips

  • Pillsbury comes out with different sugar cookie shapes seasonally. Save this recipe to try different shapes for Halloween, Easter and Christmas!
  • Plan ahead! Like I said, Pillsbury sugar cookies tend to be seasonal so if you see a shape you want to use, buy it and freeze the dough for when you are ready!
  • Keep the dough cool. Your cookies will spread more if your dough gets warm before baking. For thicker, chewier cookies, keep your dough cool.

Recipe FAQs

Where Can I Find Premade Cookie Dough?

Premade cookie dough needs to be refrigerated, so look in the refrigerated section of your grocery store for these packages of cookie dough. You may notice other shapes of Pillsbury sugar cookies. Feel free to swap out whatever makes sense for your celebration!

Can I use Homemade Cookie Dough Instead of Premade?

You can absolutely use homemade dough for the chocolate chip layer. The football layer is probably harder to create on your own. Using premade dough makes this recipe absolutely failproof!

How Do I Keep the Cookies From Spreading Too Much?

If you prefer thicker cookies, make sure you keep your dough chilled. You might even want to put your cookies back into the refrigerator for 10 minutes before baking to help them hold their shape.

Can I Freeze These Cookies?

Yes! Freeze these cookies in an airtight container for up to two months.

Do I Need to Grease the Baking Sheet?

You should not need to grease the baking sheet. These cookies have enough butter to prevent sticking. I always like to use a sheet of parchment paper on my baking sheet for easy cleanup.
