This Cottage Cheese Dip makes it easy to sneak some protein into your snacking. With a fresh herb flavor and creamy texture, it’s a dip that’s sure to be a hit!

Cottage cheese is having a moment. For years many people have considered it an acquired taste, mostly because of the texture. But recently there have been so many more recipes adding cottage cheese as a secret ingredient.

The reason? Cottage cheese is a versatile ingredient that is low in calories and high in calcium and protein (it’s perfect in this Spinach Pie recipe!). When it is blended up smooth in cottage cheese recipes, it is the perfect base for so many sauces and dips.

This Cottage Cheese Dip is the perfect example. Blended up smooth with plenty of dried herbs and a dash of lemon juice, cottage cheese is transformed from a bowl of lumpy, watery cheese to a delicious dip perfect for raw veggies, crackers, or potato chips.

This dip is the perfect party food. It is filling, and delicious and I promise you won’t even know you’re eating cottage cheese!

Why Make This Recipe

  1. Easy Appetizer: This dip is a perfect appetizer for your next party or even as an easy snack to enjoy at home. It only takes five minutes to throw together using very simple ingredients. You may even be able to mix up this dip without making an extra trip to the grocery store!
  2. Great Flavor: This dip has all the flavor of your favorite ranch dressing and is perfect for serving with plenty of fresh veggies.
  3. Secret Ingredient: Blended cottage cheese is smooth and creamy, with no unpleasant texture, leaving a simple, subtle cheesy base for herbs and garlic to melt into. Yum!

What Do You Need To Make This Recipe

Ingredients

Ingredients shown are used to prepare cottage cheese dip.
  1. Cottage Cheese: I prefer to use full-fat cottage cheese for the best flavor and texture
  2. Dried Herbs: Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Dried Dill, Dried Basil, Salt and Black Pepper. Feel free to play around with these spices if you want a different flavor profile!
  3. Lemon Juice: I always recommend fresh lemon juice for the best taste.

Tools

  1. Food Processor: You can also use a blender or a nutribullet. If all else fails, an immersion blender could work as well, though the dip may be too thick for that near the end of the blending process.

Expert Tips

  • Using dry seasonings makes this recipe super simple, but you could substitute with fresh herbs if you have some on hand. You may need more fresh dill and fresh basil than you do dry.
  • You can add extra herbs to this easy cottage cheese dip recipe if you prefer. Try it with parsley, cilantro, chives, green onions, or tarragon.
  • Some recipes call for a drizzle of olive oil over the top of the dip before serving. Give it a try for another layer to this flavorful dip!
  • The lemon juice in this recipe gives it a fresh, delicious flavor. I don’t recommend substituting it with bottled lemon juice. Use fresh.

Can I Use a Blender to Make This Recipe?

You could use a blender to make this Cottage Cheese Dip but for the best results, a food processor is the way to go. A food processor does the best job of really blending the cottage cheese and ensuring there are no lumps in your dip. It creates a whipped Cottage Cheese Dip with a perfect texture.

A blender can work but you may have to scrape down the sides of the blender more often to make sure no lumps get stuck. Some blenders may also need more liquid to produce a smooth blend which may lead to a runny dip.

Can I Make This Dip Ahead of Time?

Yes! You can easily make this healthy dip ahead of time. Simply store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for one to two days before serving. Make sure you give it a good stir before serving as it may separate as it sits.

Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to four days. This dip, because of the cottage cheese, does not freeze well.

How Do You Serve Cottage Cheese Dip?

You can serve this dip with any of your favorite party dippers. Place it on a platter with plenty of raw vegetables or serve it as a spread. Here are some things you can dip into your cottage cheese recipe:

  • Tomatoes
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Radishes
  • Snap peas
  • Pita chips
  • Tortilla chips
  • Pretzels
  • Pita bread
  • Crackers
  • Crostini

You could also use this delicious dip as a spread on sandwiches, wraps, burgers or toast or as a sauce for pasta.

Can You Use Yogurt Instead of Cottage Cheese?

You could use Greek Yogurt as a substitute for cottage cheese. This substitution would change the flavor of the dip entirely since cottage cheese has a milder flavor than yogurt. However, it would still be a delicious and healthy alternative to cream cheese or sour cream. If you want to make a 2 ingredient dip using sour cream, I recommend this Healthy Veggie Dip Recipe
