This dip is incredibly easy to put together. It doesn’t require any special tools, just chop, mix and enjoy. It’s perfect for dipping with chips, pretzels and, of course, bagels.

While the name of this dip may have you picturing a dip made with cream cheese and everything bagel seasoning, this dip may be a bit more surprising. Its flavor comes from sour cream, mayonnaise, green onions and dried beef and trust me, the mix of tangy and savory will be an instant hit.

  1. Sour cream: You could substitute reduced fat sour cream but I prefer the flavor of full fat
  2. Mayonnaise
  3. Ranch seasoning mix: I bought the packet but didn’t use the whole thing. If you have leftovers, save it to make some Fried Pickle Dip!
  4. Dried beef: Dried beef, sometimes called chipped beef, is similar to jerky but much thinner. You can usually find it at your local grocery store or you can order it online from Walmart or Amazon.
  5. Green onions
  6. Bagels, for serving

What is Chipped Beef

Chipped beef is thinly sliced, dried beef. It’s salted and smoked and has a delicious flavor. You can usually find it sold in a sealed package or jar near deli meats in the grocery store or you can also purchase it online. It’s a key part of this recipe so don’t skip it!

Recipe Variations

When you think of bagels, you may automatically think of cream cheese. This dip doesn’t call for cream cheese, but if you want to make it extra creamy, you’re more than welcome to add it! Make sure your cream cheese is softened before you begin mixing so that it incorporates well.

You could also spice up this dip with a dash of hot sauce or some jalapenos. The great thing about dips is they are easily customized to your liking!

Expert Tips

  • Dried beef can be salty, so if you’re concerned about sodium or just want a milder flavor, you can rinse and pat it dry.
  • Each ranch packet comes with different flavors. Try adding a bit, then tasting before adding more to make sure that your dip is seasoned to your liking.
  • Let the dip chill in the fridge overnight if possible to help all of the flavor blend together!
  • This dip would be great spread onto a sandwich.
