Creamed Peas are a delicious, fast, and easy side dish that are always a hit at the dinner table! These Instant Pot Creamed Peas can be made in the Instant Pot or on the stovetop.
I adore cream cheese and I adore corn. A few years ago, I had Creamed Corn and my life was changed! It is now my favorite recipe on the Thanksgiving table (tied with my Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board), and I look forward to having it every chance that I could get.
Recently I started thinking…. If I love Creamed Corn so much, what other vegetables can I cook in a similar fashion? Creamed Peas seemed like a great first idea to try out! They are absolutely incredible, and, dare I say, rival my creamed corn!
This recipe has a 3 minute cook time, only 5 ingredients, and goes with EVERYTHING. Plus, I haven’t gotten a bad review on them yet!! You have every reason to try out this recipe, and I can’t wait to hear what you think. Keep reading this article for tips and tricks on how to make your Instant Pot Creamed Peas perfectly.
What are Creamed Peas?
Creamed Peas are made by mixing peas with heavy cream, cream cheese, butter, and spices to create a delicious cream sauce! This recipe specifically can be made in the Instant Pot or on the stovetop.
What Do I Need to Make this Recipe?
Ingredients
- Frozen Peas: You do not need to thaw the peas before putting them in the pot. The pot will thaw them as it comes to pressure.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: I recommend full fat cream cheese for ultimate tastiness! You can use low fat if that is your preference!
- Butter: Use salted or unsalted butter.
- Cream Cheese: You do not need to soften the cream cheese. Use it right out of the fridge, the Instant Pot will soften it for you!
Tools
- Instant Pot: This makes the process extra quick and easy.
How to Serve Creamed Peas
This recipe would be delicious as a side dish with almost anything, including chicken, mashed potatoes, beef, or even pasta (especially my Macaroni and Cheese)! You can eat them as is or try out the very popular method of serving them on toast!

Expert Tips
- Feel free to use frozen, thawed, or canned peas, depending on what you have on hand. Do not change the cook time.
- You can use different types of cream cheese to change the flavor of your creamed peas. Try experimenting with flavors like bacon cream cheese, jalapeño cream cheese, or chive cream cheese.
- The mixture will look funny when you open the Instant Pot because the cream cheese is cooked, but you can’t tell yet. Once you stir the mixture, the cream cheese will melt into the peas, making the perfect creamy sauce.
Recipe FAQs
No, even though it doesn’t seem like there is a lot of liquid in this recipe, you will be just fine! The butter melting, the liquid from thawing the peas, and the heavy cream all produce enough liquid that you will not get a burn notice!
Yes, because the heavy cream has a high fat content, it can be cooked under pressure! Do not substitute this ingredient with milk or half and half as it will curdle under pressure.
